French Toast in a Mug

This French toast in a mug is perfect if you’re craving amazing eggy bread, but don’t feel like getting the frypan out.

French Toast in a Mug

If you love traditional French toast, then you have to give this version a try. It doesn’t crisp up as it does in the frypan, but all the flavors are still there. I love making this recipe whenever I’m low on time but want a cooked breakfast.

This mug recipe is a fantastic way to get an excellent tasting breakfast or dessert in just a matter of minutes. The best thing is that it only takes a couple of dishes, so it’s great if you’re feeling a little lazy.

You will find that this recipe is perfect when you only need to cook for one or two people and don’t mind if the bread isn’t super crisp. In fact, it won’t be crisp at all since we’re only microwaving it, but you will still have an amazingly moist, tasty French toast.

What to Serve with French Toast in a Mug

While you can eat this without any extras, I do recommend having it with something. Below are a couple of suggestions.

I love to have French toast with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of double cream. In the photos, I chose to serve it with some ice-cream as I was feeling a little peckish at the time.

I always love adding some maple syrup or honey once I am ready to serve. Simply drizzle your chosen sweetener over the top of the bread, and it will help make this dish shine.

Perfecting the Recipe

It’s ideal to use stale bread as it will absorb the egg mixture the best. Fresh bread will still work, but won’t end up nearly as good.

If you want extra creamy French toast, then just substitute the milk for cream. This change is a bit unhealthier but is totally worth it. It’s one of my personal favorite adjustments to this recipe.

3 Minute French Toast in a Cup

You’re able to add some additional ingredients into the French toast mixture. For example, don’t hesitate to add some fruits such as raspberries, blueberries, or even chopped apple. It’s a great way to get even more flavor into this delicious breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon, ground
  • 2 slices of white bread cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease a microwavable mug.
  2. Add the egg, milk, vanilla essence, sugar, cinnamon, and beat together.
  3. Add the diced bread and push it down into the egg mixture.
  4. Place in the microwave and cook on high for about 1 & ½ minutes.
  5. Serve & Enjoy.

Recipe Tips

  • Stale bread usually works a lot better in French toast as it will absorb the egg mixture faster.
  • The cooking time will vary depending on how powerful your microwave is and what settings you have it on. I have mine on the highest setting and find it takes roughly one and a half minutes for it to be cooked correctly.
  • Make sure you use a microwave-safe mug as you don’t want to damage your mug or microwave.
