A tea ball infuser is a great way to infuse your tea as they are easy to use, clean and you can just brew one cup of tea.
There are other variations of this gadget such as the mesh tea ball infuser that has a mesh material rather than a solid metal material for where the tea is stored. The mesh variation seems to hold finer teas better but can feel a bit flimsy.
If you want to see this in action then be sure to check out my video above, I go through the steps and any thoughts I have on this easy to use tea infuser.
How the Tea Ball Infuser Work
Tea ball infusers are so easy to use that they are almost foolproof! Anyhow here are some instructions on how to use one.
- Simply place approximately one teaspoon of tea into the infuser.
- Place into a mug of freshly boiled water. The tea should start to infuse straight away (color is the most noticeable part of this)
- Brew for about 3-5 minutes before removing the infuser.
- Serve & Enjoy
If you’re looking to get your own tea ball infuser you can typically find them at any good supermarket or tea shop. You can also find them online at pretty much any tea retailer or at large retail online shops such as Amazon.
If you’re wondering about some of the upsides of using a tea ball infuser over other types of tea infusers then I have listed some of the pros I found with this infuser.
One Cup Only
Tea ball infusers are absolutely fantastic for when you need to make just one cup of tea. All you need is a mug and the tea ball and you’re set to go.
This is also a con but I will go into more detail further down the page.
They generally are very cheap making them a great alternative to buying a teapot. Especially if you don’t plan on making large amounts of tea often.
You will most likely find these nifty devices for typically less than $10 USD.
There are only a couple of downsides I found when using one of these to brew my tea.
If I miss a con or pro that you think people should be aware of then feel to let us know by leaving a comment at the bottom of this page.
Some varieties of teas that expand will not work as well in a tea ball infuser. This is because when the tea expands the amount of water that can get in between the tea is reduced thus reducing the amount of tea being infused.
The expansion of the tea can also make them very difficult to open due to the design of the gadget.
One cup only
Another one of the downsides to this is that you can only use it in one mug. This is mainly because they will only fit enough tea to infuse roughly one mug worth of tea.
You may notice I already mentioned this before as being a pro but for some people who want to brew more than just 1 mug worth of tea then this would be a con.
If you want to make a large amount of tea with a tea ball infuser then you will probably need to have quite a few of these. About 4 would be enough to infuse one typical pot of tea.
Again as I mentioned above if you’re interested in picking one of these up you can find them widely available at pretty much any good tea store or supermarket.
If you have used one of these before and would love to share your opinion on it then be sure to leave a comment below.
